In Which I Weave a Tangled Web (Part 1)

Posted in Small Business Stuff by goeasywriter on August 21, 2007

All right, so everybody’s seen a spider hanging out on the ceiling, right? Usually, it’s the biggest spider you’ve ever seen, and it suddenly materializes over your bed right when you’re about to turn off the lights. So, imagine you were lying in bed, about to turn off the lights, and an elephant materialized on your ceiling. How many nanoseconds would you have before you were crushed by a very surprised elephant?
So we all know why the elephant would fall…that’s basic, Newtonian, apple-on-head force of gravity stuff. But why does the spider stay up there? The main reason the spider stays up there is because it is so small that its electromagnetic force is still dominant…it’s electromagnetism dominates the force of gravity.
Now, elephants are impressive in their own way. And they’re good for things like…well…performing in circuses. Spraying water on a hot day. Making baby elephants. But they can’t overcome gravity. They’re just too big.
There are a lot of benefits to being a spider business instead of an elephant business. Sure, it means that things like folded newspapers pose a bit of an inconvenience. But, speaking as a spider, it also means that the electromagnetism of our creative-problem solving can overcome the staid, ordinary gravity that our large competitors get stuck with. Honing a creative and unexpected, “hey, let’s get ‘em from the ceiling” approach to problem solving, and coming to your clients’ table with viable options they never considered, only costs time…and you might net a nice, juicy bluebottle out the deal.
So how do you perfect this web-weaving ceiling drop? Tune in for Part 2 later this week!
